Are men, in respect of their sunglasses, as fashion conscious, as women are? Well, I was completely bowled over when I did my research on this Blog Post and saw for myself that there is a Sunglasses Guide and it’s just for men. The answer must therefore be yes, men are as fashion conscious as women are and they take their fashion accessories very serious.

Sunglasses Guide for Men

According to the Gentleman’s Gazette, a man would own at least a few hats 100 years ago, but sunglasses have now taken their place and hats are worn by only a very few men. The Gazette goes further and provides us with a bit of history. James Ayscough began to experiment in 1752 with tinted lenses by placing them in spectacles. “According to documentation, Ayscough believed that glasses tinted in a blue or green colour could correct the eyesight of visually impaired people. It’s widely accepted by historians that he had, at the time of his experimentation, no intention of creating sunglasses as we know them today.”

By the 1900’s sunglasses have however gained widespread appeal and Hollywood Actors accelerated this appeal by the sunglasses they wore. The Gazette states further that “Manufacturers like Sam Foster began to produce them in bulk, and the use of sunglasses was no longer limited to people wanting to avoid strain to their eyes — sunglasses had become a fashionable accessory and one that every man and woman wanted to flaunt proudly. In 1936, a man by the name of Edwin H. Land would invent polarized sunglasses, and the world of sunglasses took off.”

Fashion Trends Today

GQ indicates that when it comes to this year’s fashion trends for men, “flat is in (but in a good way). Swerve-y, zero-curve shades now grace the faces of nearly every influencer and festival enthusiast.”

According to The Trendspotter, the five best types of sunglasses for men are:

  • Round Frame Sunglasses – Guaranteed to provide you with a vintage look with a hint of eccentricity.
  • Wayfarer Sunglasses – A retro look usually accompanied with a faintly coloured rim or lens.
  • Aviator Sunglasses – Elvis Presley wore this type of glasses.
  • D-Frame Sunglasses – Creating a contemporary and retro look.
  • Mirrored Sunglasses – Attention-grabbing, and exudes a mysterious but confident persona. identifies amongst others the following Brands which are best suited to men and follow the trendiest fashion requirements:

  • Gucci
  • Carrera
  • Saint Laurent

Where can You Get Your Perfect Pair of Sunglasses?

It seems appropriate to conclude with the Gentleman’s Gazette: “There are many styles available, and some may look better than others on particular face shapes. What’s more important to note than the specific look is what one should seek when selecting a pair not just for style, but for purpose as well.”
