What is the story behind Gucci’s Mantra?
The Brand has been founded in Florence by Guccio Gucci in 1921. This signifies almost a century of exposure and experience within the fashion world. According to Wikipedia, Gucci is on Interbrand’s “Top Global 100 Brands” chart and is also the world’s biggest-selling Italian brand. The Gucci company became one of the world’s most successful manufacturers of high-end leather goods, clothing, and other fashion products.
Although the Company has its beginnings almost a century ago, it has not stagnated at all. Searching Gucci’s “About Us Page” one notes the following: “Under the new vision of creative director Alessandro Michele, the House has redefined luxury for the 21st century, further reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most desirable fashion houses. Eclectic, contemporary, romantic—Gucci products represent the pinnacle of Italian craftsmanship and are unsurpassed for their quality and attention to detail.”
Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri indicated in London at the “Day of the Girl” in 2017 that “In selecting a new creative director I wanted to find someone who shared a belief in the importance of the same values. I sensed that immediately on meeting Alessandro for the first time. Together, by committing to a culture of purpose, taking responsibility, and encouraging respect, inclusivity, and empowerment, we want to create the necessary conditions for a progressive approach to sustainability.”

Now that we know more about Gucci’s Mantra and about Gucci’s new Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, we can have a look at what Gucci brings to the table (or more aptly named –The Catwalk) in 2017. According to Elle, “Milan Fashion Week kicked off with the Gucci-est Gucci show we’ve seen from creative director Alessandro Michele thus far. According to show notes, all the pieces in this collection, titled Magic Lanterns, “tell a story steeped in wonder, phantasmagoria, and unorthodoxy.” This explains the bold ruffles, mad-cap styling, signature prints, and loads of colour that took over the runway.”
